Lail was born on 25 March 1992 in Williamson County, Texas, USA to Kay Lune Surratt (father) and Dean Franklin Lail (mother). She also has a sister by the name of Kathryn Dean Lail and together with her was raised up in Asheboro in North Carolina.
Elizabeth completed Asheboro High School in 2010 then followed her dream of being an actress at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts to study acting. The desire to be an actress had been with her since childhood and even at a young age, she featured in a play titled Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Lail moved to New York City after her university education to follow her dream. Here, she worked by night in the theatre as an actress and during the day as a babysitter to support her career. It was during this moment, she landed the role of Anna in the fantasy adventure series “Once Upon a Time” in the fourth season in 2014. Two years later in 2016, she landed another role (main character) as Amy Hughes in the film “Dead of Summer”.
